Mxl guitar cube pro review12/24/2023 ![]() I also bought the MXL Guitar Cube Pro that I found to be incredible, even better than the SM57 which of course is a standard in the industry. However he was running it through a 2 thousand dollar pre. He had panned hard left, and hard right, and the tone was incredible. I had bought two of the original MXL V57M's used on eBay after I heard a demonstration here on Gear Slutz of someone who recorded an acoustic guitar with one, and also recorded that same guitar through the L.R.Baggs M1A pickup. I found this thread because I just received the offer for the MXL 910 for $49. Ok back to the MXL microphones and Musicians Friend Stupid Deal of the day. So they officially say it does not include Fender, Gibson etc but once in the store it does anyhow. What you sell it for, when someone enters the store is up for grabs. all of those they have MAP agreements with. ![]() ![]() I love Guitar Center but I must admit, all of the major players are skirting their MAP agreements by advertising store wide discounts and then when you read the fine print it says this excludes, Fender, Gibson, etc. The business does even better than before. Let's compare this to Warren Buffet, not a millionaire, but a billionaire who looks at a company long and hard and when they buy it they come in and improve it. So they would rather steal a dime than earn a dollar. Then when the company goes bankrupt Bain Capital cannot be touched. They also wind up with a portion of the pensions funds as well. As we are all aware at this point it is a habit of Bain Capital to take over a company, borrow huge sums of money in the companies name, and then sloth off mucho denaro into their personal accounts. Thanks, Michael Joly for a great mod and customer service!ĭaily Kos: Bain Capital's "Guitar Center" going down fastI am purposely not getting political here so please don't enter that into it. It fills my "dark mic" gap, and, with added slight EQ, it can be more articulate, if that's what you want. It seems that the solid-state Mackie gives it a little of crispy-ness, for extra high end. Next, I will try it on a $30 Art Tube MP Studio Pre. I tried it "on the cheap" with under-$400 equipment - Art Tube Pac Pre/compressor and Mackie VLZ-Pro mixer. Maybe the sound you get out of this mic will depend greatly on the preamp used. I have never had a "vintage" U87 (Michael Joly has A-B comparisons on his website) but I have heard samples, and this mic seems to be on the darker side of the U87. I imagine this mic can be dull for some voices, depending on the talent, but it may be ideal for sibilant ones. This is it! Other microphones get a lot of the bow friction noise exaggerated. It is hard to find a microphone that makes the violin sound the way I hear it in my ears. I play the violin professionally and record it a lot. It adds some body to some small acoustic instruments, like mandolin, ukelele and violin. VERY NICE!! It is on the dark character side, and does good with guitars and strings, because it doesn't hype the high frequencies.
